GET MO BA ANG GETS MO DAPAT NA GETS MO NAMAN DATI PA DIBA? =)

by PK Rejoice Lagat

Why am I a PK? I could be born to a different couple (pwede sa mga artista) but why to [pastors]?

WHAT’S A [P.K.] NGA ULET?
-Pastor’s Kids (children born to congregationally pastoring parents—usually those who are full-time/ordained… if your pop or mom has a prefix “PTR.” On their names, most probably, you’re one :p)
-usually grows up in church/parsonage (if asked where do you live? They usually answer: at church!)
-knows better how the church runs (not how-to-run-the-church, who runs the church anyway?)
-has a better idea how pastors really live
-has a Levitical heritage (by blood, which I really refer to: by “name”)
-etcetera (you may add po)

WHEN DID YOU START BEING A PK? (when does one start being a PK?)
***just post your answer, heehee ;)

ARE THERE PK’S IN THE BIBLE?
Samuuueeeeelll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (How in the world did he-----?)

LET’S TALK ABOUT NAMES
[Samuel] means because I have asked for him from the Lord (1Sam1:20)

MOMS KNOW BEST (believe me!)
Samuel was ASKED-FOR—basically an expensive request, and later became an [expensive offering] to the Lord. Why did Hannah give her back to the Lord? (1:22, 28) Did Hannah know God would one day call our little Sam to be a priest and prophet? (Ch3) Bakit sobrang stage-mother ang style ni Hannah (she would yearly bring a robe for Samuel)? (2:19)

POSITIONED KIDS
Priest Eli’s sons, Hophni and Phinehas, would have been the kids next-in-line for priesthood. They were somehow in position, and vacated it by profanity (2:12-17). Samuel on the other hand, positioned himself by ministering (2:18) even as a child; he wore a (kiddie?) ephod—he began to act like a priest before he was formally one. Haaay, sometimes the work comes before the call. They say, we qualify ourselves for position. We do not become anointed just because our parents are. Although we already have the edge, the next step would be to prepare for our turn (and it’s already starting!)Do you believe that? =D

PULPIT KIDS
Minsan, mapangarap din taung mga PK’s noh… (or ako lang ba?) We wanted more than the “pulpit” that our parents have prepared for us. Pero dun din tau papunta… Kasi naman, dun din tau ipinanganak! (wahahaha)… Our parents, while standing in the podium, birthed us and birthed in us a dream that we would one day stand there and follow the ministry, push the ministry and better the ministry they once pioneered. If there’s something we could inherit, the pulpit would be one of the greatest grants our parents can bless and prepare for us (pulpit=not the fame po, but the humble ministry and opportunity to be used by God).

THE P.K. EDGE (ano ulet yun?)
Samuel was blessed compared to his other siblings (2nd Samuel, 3rd Samuel, etc :P); He got the chance to live in the temple—where the presence of God resides! Meron na tayo nito, [cultivation] na lang!

WHAT MAKES A PK?
Not the name… not our parents… (but thanks to them, we started to be PK’s through their names)… And whatever happens (or is happening) to us, we cannot shift the blame to our parents—let’s put it—they started being passionate for God; radically laid their lives for their Savior; found a partner who had the same call; and  ran with them. Along the way, dumating taung mga makukulit (pero puro gwapo nama’t maganda) sa buhay nila, ta’s ibi-blame pa natin sila? (snap). I strongly believe that at this point in our lives, it’s not about our parents anymore (though the honor of being their kids is still there—without equal!); Being a PK now is a choice. While others chanced out (with the likes of Hophni and Phinehas, by God’s grace, di *na* natin sila ka-species ha!), let’s LOVE and DWELL in the presence of God.

Eli’s sons—PK’s (priest’s kids) na HINDI nagpaka-PK…
Samuel—hindi PK na nagpaka-PK!

THE [P]RESENCE [K]IDS
(being soaked in His presence makes us like HIM)
1Samuel2:26 (a similar verse used to describe Jesus later in the New Testament)—and the child Samuel grew in stature and in favor both with the Lord and men. Just like Jesus!

[P]ART NA, [K]ASAMA PA!
1Samuel 2:30 – Therefore the Lord God of Israel says: I said that indeed your house and the house of your father would walk before me forever.
Read that? For-eh-ver. Like, Panghabangbuhay to Kids! Hwag na nating putulin… We’re part of this priestly (pastoral) lineage. (Amen?)

PRIESTHOOD KASI—PK’S HAVE A TRANSFER-ORIENTATION
1Samuel 2:35 – Then I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who shall do according to what is in My heart and in My mind. I will build him a sure house, he shall walk before my anointed forever.
Ililipat ni Lord sa iba, kapag di tayo ready; ililipat naman sa atin kapag super-ready tayo! Weeee! =D

PRAYER KIDS, this is my prayer for all of us:
That in the rarity (di naman masyadong rare, pero nagiging rare lang kasi malabo ang signal, madalang din ang connection natin kay Lord kung minsan) of God’s Voice, we would hear Him speak the specifics in His heart. (check 1Samuel 3:1)

So, ano, Gets mo naman diba ang dapat mong gets na dati mo na ding gets noh?! (wahehe!)
Sino ka sa kanila, PUMILI KA KID:
  1. OLD Priest Eli—nakuha niya—yeah, slight lang. Haha. Na-gets, pero di napasa.
  2. YOUNG Hophni and Phinehas—Di naka-gets. Tsk.
  3. CHILD Samuel—nasa position, kaya gets na gets! Sharp.

There’s blessing in responding to God’s call. Let’s [take] God at His Word. =)

The Daniel Paradigm (PK Online Conference)

Hi guys! Just an update from our online conference last September 26th. We started an online fellowship wherein we can also share God's words to each other. (Siyempre, hindi rin mawawala ang mga kulitan at tawanan.) It is being held once a month (every last Saturday). Hopefully more PK's can (or “will”) attend next time.

The topic chosen was based on the present FB (Facebook) craze on the internet. Radically, we came to the thought of a PK Facebook style of discussion, whereas, Bible character profiles will be our targets... parang "Add as a Friend" =D At this point, it's Prophet Daniel.

Isn’t that cool? At least for me, it is! =D But actually, the idea of FB style was adopted from our ka-berkz from Buhangin Community Church (BCC), Davao City. (Thanks BCC!) Pero siyempre kelangan nating budburan ng PK spices and ingredients para mas malinamnam. ;)

Kuya Gen dared the possible and shared the following:

New Friend Request to: Prophet Daniel

Theme: The Daniel Paradigm

Context: Prophet Daniel—“one of the few men in the Bible whom God says nothing negative.” (excerpt from John C. Maxwell’s commentary)
Retrospective crunch: If I were Daniel, what kind of PK/Person would I be? Who is he? What can be learned of him?

Intro: The word "paradigm" in its simplest form means "pattern" or "example". (according to the dictionary).

1. Paradigm of The Intimate-Prayer Warrior (Dan. 2:17-19; 9:1-23). Daniel never makes a step on his own. He consults God in every decision. This kind of dependence can't transpire without intimacy. I believe that it is impossible to be intimate with God without prayer. Daniel does not pray ordinarily because everytime he prays, he knows that he is at war. Prayer is a weapon that works in the supernatural battles and creates its impact on the natural.

*** PK = Prayer Kid (quoted from cbox =D)

2. Paradigm of the The Faith Heir (Dan. 1:23; 12:13). If you have faith, then where did it come from? Basically as PK's, we must inherit our parent's faith in Jesus. Daniel got it primarily from Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And the faith that he inherited from his ancestors (bloodline/faithline) has saved him and birthed the power, protection, and excellence (Dan. 1:19) in him.

As PK's, we may not inherit material things from our parents but above all else, may we eagerly and vigilantly capture their faith and passion in serving the Lord. Let's aim our eyes and hearts to eternal things and not those that will perish. A faith strongly founded in God is a leap to eternity. Let's not miss our inheritance from our parents, dear PK's =)

*** Hmmmm... some may think of their parents' faith as shallow but may we also consider the brighter sides of the cube. One of the 10 Commandments and the book of Proverbs commands us to honor and obey our parents. We will respect and listen to them not because of their strengths or weaknesses, but because it is our own expression of worship to God. To those who have imperfect parents, like me, let's add more years to our life (and to their’s, too)--let's learn to love and honor our parents, by the grace of God.

3. Paradigm of the Eunuch Commitment (Daniel 1:4-19). What “kind” of commitment does a king require from a servant? Certainly, it is a commitment that can deprive someone of his own pleasures, to offer his full service to his master. A "eunuch" is “a castrated man placed in charge of a harem or employed as a chamberlain in a palace." (from the dictionary) Daniel is a eunuch, which means that the king can entrust even his household to him. To “castrate” is to deprive a man of his testes (or, a woman of his ovaries). Daniel denied his ambition to have his own wife and family for the sake of serving the kings. He was able to render such a commitment because, first of all, the word "commitment" was defined thru his personal relationship and deep devotion with God. Meaning, his commitment to the kings is but an outflow of his commitment to God.

How can a PK render such a commitment? I believe it takes a period of preparation; a preparation initiated from a consistent and intimate walk with God. And I think it’s good to start committing to God with this verse in mind:

“He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me, you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). If we desire fruitfulness, then first we come to God and commit our entire life to Him, in Christ Jesus.

Commitment is intentional, complete surrender to God is a must.

"…from everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." -Luke 12:48

PK's are given much, where shall we commit it to? If not to God, then life is a desolate cause.

4. Paradigm of the Royalty Magnet (Daniel 2:46-49; 5:7,29; 6:1-3). Well, this is actually the fruit of the first 3 paradigms (above). In his lifetime, Daniel served 3 kings (Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, Darius) and to all of them, he has found favor. No matter where he is, they always come looking after him as if the rewards get magnetized towards him. High ranks and riches chased him because he first chased the Ultimate Source of everything---his God.

A PK is born with a natural prestige/fame. Should we blame our parents? Is it a blessing or a curse? I believe it will depend on what you do with it.

God rewards us because that is His nature. We, as humans, may forget the good things that we have done. But to Him, not one is taken for granted.

John C. Maxwell noted, “A gift may take a leader to the top, but humility enables him to endure.” Royalty is good but it can be a shortcut to one’s downfall. What is royalty if it’s no longer directed to God? What is fame if it only brings praise one’s self? What is a blessing if it isn’t meant to be shared?

May Christ be our righteousness, His salvation our crown. Let us worship His Majesty for it opens the windows to [royalty].

Ending words…

May Daniel’s life be a living influence to us (PK’s), as we grow deeper and higher to the fullness of Jesus Christ, our Lord, by the grace and mercies of God our Father in Heaven.

Facebook Notification: Prophet Daniel and the Pastor’s Kids are now friends. (weeeeeeeeeeh! =D)

Everything To Me

by Avalon

i grew up in sunday school

i memorized the golden rule
and how Jesus came to set the sinner free
i know the story inside out
i can tell you all about
the path that led him up to calvary
but ask me why he loves me
and i don't know what to say
but i'll never be the same
because he changed my life when he became...

everything to me
he's more than a story
more than words on a page of history
he's the air that i breath
the water i thirst for
and the ground beneath my feet
he's everything, everything to me

we're living in uncertain times
and more and more i find that i'm aware
of just how fragile life can be
i want to tell the world i found
a love that turned my life around
they need to know that they can taste and see
now everyday i'm praying
just to give my heart away
i want to live for Jesus
so that someone else might see that he is...

everything to me
he's more than a story
more than words on a page of history
he's the air that i breath
the water i thirst for
and the ground beneath my feet
he's everything
and looking back over my life at the end
i'll go to meet you saying you've been...

you're everything to me
you're more than a story
more than words on a page of history
you're everything to me
you're more than a story
more than words on a page of history
you're the air that i breath
the water i thirst for
and the ground beneath my feet
you're everything to me
Lord, you're everything to me

A PK grows up in church. He memorized verses, he plays instruments, he contributes much to the church. I have two questions though:
1. What has the church become thru you? (in Tagalog: Ano ang napala ng church sa pmamagitan ng buhay mo?)
2. What have you become (in Christ) thru the church? (in Tagalog: Ano ang narating ni Kristo sa buhay mo sa pamamgitan ng church?)

*** It's not about what you've done, but, it's who you have chosen to become from what you've done. Believe in the power of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He did not die in vain, we (PK's) shall not be in want. Christ is our EVERYTHING. =)

Staying the Course

by BJ Gallagher
(posted by Manong Gen)

Our journey of life is about progress,
not perfection.
It's not about doing one thing
100% better -
it's a matter of doing 100 things,
1% better each day.
Progress is evolutionary
not revolutionary,
and most days we measure our progress
in inches,
not miles.
What matters most
is showing up for your life
whether you feel like it
or not.
Ask yourself,
"What two or three little things
can I do today
that would move me forward?"
You'll be amazed
at how much distance
you can cover
by taking it in increments.
The little things add up;
the inches turn to miles;
and we string together our efforts
like so many pearls.
Before long,
look what you have -
a whole strand!
Ah... beautiful.
